Secondary Venous Ulcer

Here is a new classification. Secondary venous ulcers. Simply stated ulcers that mimic venous ulcers but lack the history. In our practice we see these not infrequently. These are non healing ulcers that occur after a biopsy in the lower extremity in a patient with venous insufficiency. The major difference is that there are no refluxing vessels in the ulcer bed as in true primary venous ulcers. The treatment is directed at the source and not the ulcer bed.
